Choosing a Lift Chair to Buy

Lift chairs are designed to help people who are elderly or injured get up and down into a seated position with ease and safety. Lift chairs are specifically designed for comfort and mobility to help people to continue leading independent lives.

There are many different types of lift chairs. Choosing the right lift chair to buy should take into consideration the person’s physical needs as well as their wants and desires as far as color, texture and size of the chair. The following should be considered when buying a lift chair:

  1. Weight of the individual – Lift chairs have a maximum capacity for their ability to lift someone up and down. Most lift chairs have a 300 to 400 pound capacity, while others have a 500 to 700 pound capacity. Determining the right capacity chair will depend on the weight of the individual, however it is generally suggested that overweight or obese individuals choose a chair with a higher lifting capacity.

  2. Will the chair be used for sleeping as well as sitting – Some people will use their lift chairs for sleeping as well as sitting. If the chair is to be used for sleeping you will need to select a lift chair recliner. Infinity position lift chairs recline have independently operated back and ottoman movement for an infinite number of recline positions from straight up to "sleep recline", which can lay flat like a bed.

  3. Back cushion firmness - Some lifting chairs have softer back styles while others have firmer back cushions. Button-style backs are usually of the firmer variety while the pillow style back lift chairs have softer cushions.

  4. Durability of the lift chair – The best option for durability in a lift chair is to buy one that is motorized, called a power lift chair. Ensure that there is a reasonable warranty offered on the motor.

  5. Color and style of the lift chair matches the home décor – You should plan on having your lift chair for a long time. Choosing one that will suit the interior of your home for many years to come is an important consideration when buying a lift chair.

These are the basic considerations when looking to buy a lift chair. Keep in mind that there are many special features lift chairs can come with, for example heat and massage, remote control movement, and more. The most important thing is to make sure that the chair is comfortable and can be sat in for long periods of time.
